Wow what an amazing day it was for First Hand on the 19th of September 2010! At least 150 people of all ages took part in our Walk for Rice in East Coast Park.
Each participant braved the hot Singapore sun to walk 2km, carrying in their backpacks the equivalent in weight of rice to feed 50 Cambodian children for a month.
To replenish us when we finished, we were welcomed by cold drinks and a great Sausage Sizzle (thanks to The Butcher in Holland Village). Much respect and thanks also goes to our super chefs, Elana Sterley and Joe Alfonso for withstanding the searing heat from the BBQ to supply us with delicious hotdogs.
This was First Hand’s first family event and what a successful one it was. The Walk for Rice raised a staggering $13,000 so far which helps us towards our $40,000 target for the year. Without all your generous support, in giving both time and money, this would not be possible.
Thank you to all of you who came and contributed to our food programme for vulnerable at-risk children in Cambodia, and thanks to those who couldn’t make it but contributed anyway.
We hope to see you all again at our next fundraiser, so watch this space!
