First Hand is really proud to announce that it has completed its food program for the Goutte d’eau centre at Neak Leong, having raised the $25,000 needed to provide food for a year for its 50 children.
The First Hand team really believes in providing the basic needs to the Cambodian children and has been overwhelmed with the support that we received during this last campaign.
Therefore we are really pleased to make a pledge to support Riverkids project in Phnom Penh for a food program of $40,000 to provide Riverkids with food for a year. This money will help the families in poverty stricken areas of Phnom Penh give their children nutritious lunches and dinners and also a snack during the day. It will also provide a food basket once a month for the whole family.
The Riverkids project is a charitable trust in Singapore that works to prevent child trafficking by giving support directly to Cambodian families in extremely poor areas. All the children in the project are at high-risk of being trafficked. Their families are unstable due to addiction, divorce, abuse and extreme poverty. First Hand is looking forward to working very closely with the Riverkids project over the next year.
The pledge to support the Riverkids was ‘kicked-off’ by a presentation made at the latest fundraising evening – Cocktails for a cause, of $5,000 to Dale Edmond the founder of the Riverkids Project.
First Hand will hold a sponsored walk in September and a Horse Racing Event in October and a Quiz night in November to support this program. See our events section for more details.
